First post in a while

old man tree pole

Before heading to work on Monday, I stopped by a noodle house in Pacific East Mall in El Cerrito. I ordered this rice noodle soup with beef and lettuce. After adding a little hot sauce, it was just right. I drew the old man sitting across from me. He was with his wife, and they didn’t have to say much to each other. I assume a lot when I see people in restaurants, creating stories about their relationships or what they are doing that particular day. When an older couple are together in a place like this, I can’t help but imagine their long life together, now spending their remaining years sharing a late lunch and hardly saying much. Were they always this happy?

After lunch, I wanted a cappuccino from this place that sells boba. I wanted espresso because they serve Illy which I discovered I really liked after a trip to North Beach. I could tell no one orders coffee in this place; they looked a little confused, making me worry that this was going to be a waste of three bucks. Three of the employees gathered around to see what they could do with this machine that didn’t get much use. A guy asked me if I wanted whipped cream. Hmm… Then he started sprinkling something on the froth once everything was poured… didn’t ask for any powder of any kind… In the end, it was good and luckily, I like cinnamon. I’ll be sure to tell them to skip the powder the next time.

The tree and the power/phone lines were drawn while sitting in my car outside of work. The stuff at the top of the pole looked a lot more complicated than I remembered that stuff looking.

It feels good to post a drawing here again.  Now, to do something for Graphic Apparatus which Adrian has been taking care of alone for too long.
