Plastic from Japan

misc cards from japan

Stuff that I kept in my wallet when I lived in a place called Matsudo in Chiba Prefecture. A couple of point cards and the rest are for the trains. I remember the Bic Camera stores being huge and some of them even sold liquor and toys. How did I spend a year and a half there and not draw all the time like I had planned?

If you like Paul Pope, you’ve probably heard how he lived there and worked for the comics publisher Kodansha between 1995 and 2000. While I was finding ways to waste time at community college, he was probably making great comics, some of which we’ll never get to see here in the States. Maybe with the popularity of manga here, it’s possible, but I doubt it. Check out Pulphope published by Adhouse Books. That reminds me that I gave my really crappy mini-comic to people at Comic-Con last year. If any of those unfortunate are reading this (unlikely) put that mini-comic in the trash if you haven’t already. It was my first one, and I got overly excited to hand it out when I should have taken a step back and drew at least 200 more sequential pages. I never heard back from Chris Pitzer, Gary Groth, Jaime Hernandez, and others because they probably didn’t have the time to tell me to “keep working at it” or “for-the-love-of-god stop drawing comics because these are terrible.”

At 1:33am on a Saturday night, this is the only kind of post you can expect.
