19: Two For One

These pages in my sketchbook didn’t come out well, so instead of just posting one bad one, you’re getting two scans where the binding was too tight and the pages would not lay flat on the the scanner bed.

The first one is a quick sketch of stuff on Rivero’s table. You get to see a bottle of Clorox kitchen cleaner, some Liquitex Gesso, a Marvel cup from Universal Studios, and other stuff.

The second was done at Moonstruck Cafe in Walnut Creek where Adrian introduced me to his friend, Lauren (if you’re reading this, miss, I don’t know if I’m spelling your name correctly), who said she checked out Graphic Apparatus. She didn’t say anything about the drawings I put up there, but she did critique my writing. She said I was boring or my posts weren’t “as interesting” as Rivero’s. I tried to get the point across that I don’t like to bitch and moan about my personal life on my art blogs, but she couldn’t really care less about my side of things. Now, don’t think I didn’t enjoy meeting Rivero’s friend. If I was an old-timer, I’d say she was a peach. Anyone who can handle Rivero during happy hour (the two of them had gone to Stanford’s the day before) is a saint in my books. Adrian said he was actually low-key and well-behaved for a change, and Lauren confirmed it. I’ll save the rest of my thoughts on our time at that chocolate cafe, but I’ll post it over on GA because I have some opinions on her boss that I’d like to express, and if she’s reading that blog, I’d like her to see how “interesting” and bitter I can be when necessary. Here’s a preview:

Hey, Lauren. Your manager is a ______ ___, and is more likely to drive away customers than bring them in.

You can tell that I have one specific term in mind, but so many apply, and he only said a few words. In the end, I understand though. Retail and customer service can be terrrible, and that’s coming from first hand experience. If I was ever in a position to manage a cafe, I wouldn’t… I’d better stop because I don’t want this blog to go in that direction. This was created to share what I’ve been working on. Check out GA in a few days, and I might say more on the issue. I will say that Moonstruck and Bittersweet (in SF & Rockridge) have the right idea–providing a place where there’s a lot of chocolate.

*notes: Adrian used the same spelling for Lauren’s name on the other blog. I wasn’t sure if I should be using her name and place of work without permission. I like chocolate a lot more than Rivero.  So far, I like the hot chocolate better at Bittersweet probably due to the high amount of milk fat in the hot chocolate that I had at Bittersweet Cafe in SF. Len, if you’re reading this, when are we going back [to one of those locations]?

    Heh heh.

And you never said how while she said your posts were boring, she said mine were pathetic and weepy(a fair assessment on mine at least).

Len, we’ll check out the Rockridge one soon.

Adrian, I did forget to mention that part. Maybe Lauren will just have to leave comments here and on GA to make things crystal clear.
